Management Biographies
Gordon G. Cohen Mr. Cohen joined Merchants Capital in 1999 and in 2000 became a Managing Partner. He is responsible for the origination of new opportunities, the evaluation and negotiation of prospective opportunities and the monitoring of current portfolio companies. He serves on the boards of several companies including Telebeam and ANC Sports Enterprises. He is also an observer on the boards of Access.1 Communications and Encanto Restaurants. Before joining Merchants Capital, Mr. Cohen spent 12 years as an investment banker working for Dean Witter Reynolds Inc., and Brenner Securities. During this time, he helped companies raise capital in the areas of pollution control, business and consumer services, cable television, wireless and wireline communications, outdoor advertising and healthcare services. Mr. Cohen graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University in 1980, and Beta Gamma Sigma from Columbia Business School with a Masters in Business Administration in 1986.
William J. Marraccini Mr. Marraccini is a Managing Partner of Merchants Capital and is responsible for originating new opportunities, evaluating and negotiating prospective opportunities and monitoring portfolio companies. Before joining Merchants Capital, Mr. Marraccini was the founder, principal owner and long-time CEO of AAT Communications, the largest privately-owned communications tower operator in the U.S. He was also an original investor and served on the board of Metro One, the initial non-RBOC cellular phone company serving New York City, which was ultimately sold to AT&T Wireless. Mr. Marraccini also founded and operated a highly successful rural cellular provider and a PCS provider in the Southeast. In addition, he has successfully invested in companies in such diverse industries as private cable, distributed antenna systems, marine communications and land mobile sales and service. Mr. Marraccini attended the University of Maryland and Wagner College.
Patrick L. Beach Mr. Beach is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Captec Financial Group, Inc., a company he founded in 1981. Captec is primarily involved in the acquisition and development of single tenant restaurant properties, shopping centers, and multi-family residential properties. Mr. Beach and Captec have sponsored 10 private and public investment funds and partnerships throughout the company's history. He sponsored the IPO of Captec Net Lease Realty, Inc. (formerly NASDAQ: CRRR), which was acquired by Commercial Net Lease Realty, Inc. (NYSE: NNN) at the end of 2001. He serves on the boards of numerous companies. Mr. Beach worked in the manufacturing side of the automotive industry for several years before starting Captec Financial Group, Inc. Mr. Beach graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1977.
Jacob C. Wesner Mr. Wesner is a Principal of Merchants Capital and is involved in the origination of new opportunities, the evaluation and negotiation of prospective opportunities and the monitoring of current portfolio companies. Before joining Merchants Capital in 2001, Mr. Wesner spent over four years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and over three years at Perot Investments making private equity investments for Ross Perot. He has led investments in the technology and service sectors. Mr. Wesner graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1986. He was awarded a Juris Doctor (Cum Laude) and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1992.
